Alan Hutton believes Aston Villa could be the perfect club for Alfredo Morelos after Jermain Defoe shared insight into his Rangers striker sidekick.

The former Villa and Gers star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 23-year-old needs to be in a side who play attacking football to be a success.

Defoe claims that Morelos has the ability to score goals at any level but that he has got to be playing in a team who create chances for him.

"I feel like he would need to be in the right team - a team that creates chances because I believe that if he gets chances at any level I believe he can score," he told Sky Sports.

Hutton believes that Dean Smith has tried to play an attacking style of football this season and that Morelos would flourish were he to make the move to Villa Park this summer.

Asked if Morelos would be a good fit for his old side, Hutton told Football Insider: "Yeah, definitely. I think Villa throughout the season have definitely been open at times, tried to play on the front foot and play a good brand of football.

"Sometimes it's hurt them at the back where they've lost goals defensively but I think going forward they'll definitely make more opportunities.

"I do believe he could go down south and score a lot of goals but it's just about picking the right team for him, where he's going to fit in and get chances. I do think at Villa he would have that."

Rangers attacker Alfredo Morelos says sorry

Morelos has been Rangers' talisman up front this season, with 29 goals across all competitions so far.

However, he has been on a lean spell in 2020, with just one strike since returning from Scotland's winter break.
