Rangers risk losing highly-rated youngster Dapo Mebude after he turned down a new deal at Ibrox, Football Insider sources understands.
Mebude is regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects at Rangers after impressing for the club’s youth sides in the last 18 months.
The 17-year-old is yet to make his first-team debut for Rangers, but he is being tipped to become the latest youngster to break into Steven Gerrard’s first-team plans this season.
The skilful forward has been a regular goalscorer for Rangers’ Under-20 side this season and he has been capped Scotland U19s although he is also eligible to play for England and Nigeria.
Mebude signed his first professional contract last May, but his deal is due to expire next summer.
Rangers are keen to tie down the exciting teenager to a new long-term deal to ward off potential suitors, but Mebude has so far rejected the Scottish club’s initial offer alerting a number of clubs in England.
Rangers would be loathe to lose another one of their best young talents to emerge from their academy in recent years and are fearing a repeat of the Billy Gilmour situation after the brilliant youngster was lured away to Chelsea in 2017.
In other Scottish giants news, the club are plotting a move to sign a World Cup star.
