EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Rangers have re-opened contract talks with highly-rated starlet Josh McPake, Football Insider can reveal.

The Glasgow giants have stepped up their efforts to keep McPake at Ibrox amid interest from a number of top European clubs.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that manager Steven Gerrard and director of football Mark Allen have made it a priority to sort out the attacker’s future and stop him joining one of his suitors.

McPake only has one year left to run on his current contract at Rangers and the club want to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

The 17-year-old is seen as most exciting prospect currently coming through at Ibrox and he was named the club’s Academy Player of the Year after graduating from the Under-18s last season.

McPake helped Rangers win the Scottish Youth Cup with a man-of-the-match performance in the final against Celtic and he is expected to be pushing to break into the first time next season.

In other Rangers news, it can be revealed that the club are set to complete the signing of an attacking player from Premier League giants this week.
