Exclusive: Rangers suffer major transfer snub in Ibrox blow

EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Rangers look set to miss out on signing Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell in next month’s transfer window, Football Insider sources understands.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard hinted earlier this week of interest in Dowell as he admitted his admiration for the England Under-21 international and reports have suggested talks over a loan had begun.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Everton playmaker is set to snub Rangers and move on loan to a club in England in January.

Dowell enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, scoring 10 goals in all competitions, and a number of Championship clubs have expressed an interest in taking the skilful attacker on loan when the transfer window reopens next month.

The 21-year-old is well down the pecking order in Marco Silva’s first-team plans at Everton and the club are understood to be open to the idea of loaning out Dowell so that he can valuable first-team action under his belt.

Dowell, who was part of the England team that won the Under-20 World Cup last year, has made just two appearances for Everton this season, both in the Carabao Cup.

Missing out on Dowell will come as a major blow to Rangers chief Gerrard as he had lined up the player as a replacement for Ovie Ejaria after the Liverpool man cut short his loan spell at Ibrox earlier this month.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the Scottish giants are tabling a bid for a Tottenham star.
