Rangers are working to sign in-demand Peterborough winger Gwion Edwards on a pre-contract agreement, Football Insider sources understands.
A number of sides have been chasing Edwards this summer, with Peterborough rejecting an offer from an unnamed Championship club.
Edwards is entering the final year of his contract at Peterborough and with the League One club reluctant to lose the attacker this season, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Rangers are considering signing the 25-year-old on a pre-contract deal in January.
Director of football Mark Allen is understood to believe that Edwards would make an excellent signing and is leading the pursuit.
It would not be the first time that Rangers have signed players from English clubs on pre-contracts after snapping up Acrrington duo Josh Windass and Matt Crooks in January 2016.
Edwards is no stranger to Scottish clubs having enjoyed two separate loan spells at St Johnstone while he was at Swansea before leaving the Welsh club for Crawley in the summer of 2014 and Rangers have continued to keep tabs on the player.
The skilful winger has established himself as as one of the best attackers outside the top two leagues after impressing at Peterborough since his arrival from Crawley in the summer of 2016
Edwards scored seven goals and registered five assists in 33 games in all competitions for Posh last season and he could prove to be a bargain for Rangers if he doesn’t move this summer and they take him on a pre-contract deal next January.
