Paul Robinson raved about Southampton attacker Danny Ings after it was reported that Tottenham were keen on him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs keeper believes Ings would fit in nicely at Spurs and fits the bill when it comes to what the club need.
It was recently reported that Ings is on Spurs’ radar as Jose Mourinho is keen to sign a replacement for Harry Kane with the England captain currently stuck on the sidelines injured.
However, while Robinson was delighted that Spurs were keen on the Saints attacker, he didn’t think they had a chance of signing him, given how key he is to Southampton’s survival hopes.
When asked about Ings being on Spurs’ radar and whether the club should splash the cash on him, Robinson told Football Insider: “He is a player who would fit in nicely, and he does fit the bill so yes, but I think there’s no chance of us getting him as he’s key to Southampton’s survival.
“A move like that wouldn’t be a January move, I think it would be crazy for Southampton to sell him.”
Ings has been in red-hot form this season as he has scored 16 goals in the 24 appearances he has made across all competitions.
The 27-year-old has been with the Saints on a permanent basis since joining from Liverpool in July 2019 and is contracted to stay with the South Coast club until 2022.
