Paul Robinson was “very surprised” that Moise Kean failed to impress at Everton last season after the striker scored twice for Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former England number one heaped praise on the 20-year-old but insisted that question marks remain over the player off the field.
The Italian forward scored his first two goals for PSG in a 4-0 thrashing of Dijon in Ligue 1 last weekend.
Kean joined the French club on a season-long loan deal earlier this month after a disappointing start to life at Goodison Park which included multiple issues off the pitch.
His 37 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions yielded just four goals and two assists, a shy return considering his £25million price tag.
When asked by Football Insider if he believes Kean still has a future at Goodison, Robinson said: “I was very surprised that it never worked out for him at Everton.
“I thought it was a fantastic signing having watched him play at Juventus. He looked big and strong and had an eye for goal.
“For whatever reason it did not work out for him last season. I thought he would take his fresh opportunity under Carlo Ancelotti but he has ended up moving to PSG.
“I still think he is a talented, top player. He has already proven at PSG with two goals already.
“The question remains as to whether he has off the field problems which have been spoken about before. Ancelotti will not stand for anything like that. On the field there is no question. He is a top striker.
“Only time will tell if he still has a future at Everton but right now he has an opportunity at one of the top football clubs in the world.”
