Paul Robinson ripped apart Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen after his performance in the 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Spurs No.1 claimed Eriksen was losing the ball too much, not being creative, was unproductive in matches and stated that he wasn’t playing to his full ability.
Eriksen failed to have a shot on goal, create a chance, make a tackle or an interception and managed to lose possession a total of 16 times against the Toffees.
When reflecting on Eriksen’s stats in his latest outing, Robinson suggested the Danish playmaker was being carried by his teammates and suggested that sooner or later Mauricio Pochettino may have a word with him about his future.
When asked about Eriksen’s display against Everton, Robinson told Football Insider: “It’s not the Christian Eriksen we know, as a fit, fully functioning Christian Eriksen enhances any team as we’ve seen how key he has been for Tottenham in recent seasons, but he is just not performing at the moment.
“He has had his head turned, his heart is elsewhere and they seem to be carrying him at the moment, he’s been in and out of the team and if you’re gonna be in the team you have to perform, and at the moment he is not performing.
“He’s losing the ball, he’s not creative, he’s not productive and he’s not doing his usual role for Spurs and there comes a point where a manager has to say, ‘if you’re going in January, you can’t be in my team if you’re going to perform like that’.”
The 27-year-old has been with Spurs since 2013 after joining from Dutch club Ajax and has racked up 67 goals as well as 87 assists during 290 appearances for the club.
However, Eriksen’s current Spurs contract is set to expire at the end of the season with his last contract extension coming three years ago in 2016.
In other Tottenham news, Darren Bent suggested this loaned-out Spurs player should be recalled to ‘freshen things up’.
