Exclusive: Robinson suggests Aston Villa fringe player could be the answer after 'Huge blow'

Paul Robinson suggested Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland may be able to cover for Tom Heaton while the Englishman is out injured.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-England shot-stopper admitted losing Heaton to injury was a huge blow but thought a capable replacement could already be at the club.

The Villians recently confirmed that Heaton is set to miss the rest of the season due to injury and as a result, Dean Smith’s side are reported to want to sign a replacement for him in January.

However, Robinson revealed that he believes Nyland could be capable of stepping up based on his CV and pointed out he was yet to be properly tried out in the Premier League.

When asked about Villa’s hunt for a new goalkeeper, Robinson told Football Insider: “With Tom being out, it’s going to be a huge blow.

“Nyland is a good goalkeeper and he is yet to be properly tested and tried in the Premier League.

“He’s got 20 odd caps for his country, so potentially he has the CV to suggest he could do a job.

“Whether he does in the next couple weeks, remains to be seen.”

The 29-year-old has 28 caps for Norway and has featured twice in the Premier League for the Villans this season.

The shot-stopper has conceded two goals and kept one clean sheet in those outings and he has also featured in the FA Cup as well as the EFL Cup during the current campaign.

In other Aston Villa news, Noel Whelan urged the Villans to throw everything at getting Premier League player as it’d be a ‘Massive signing’.
