Paul Robinson tipped Tottenham winger Ryan Sessegnon to oust Christian Eriksen from the first-team on a regular basis.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs goalkeeper revealed Sessegnon was the only Spurs fringe player who really impressed him in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich.

The 19-year-old was making only his fourth appearance for Tottenham on Wednesday since joining the club from Fulham in the summer.

Robinson shared that he thought Sessegnon was more than capable of making Eriksen’s spot in the team his own with the Danish playmaker all out of sorts.

When asked if anyone impressed him in Spurs’ 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich, Robinson told Football Insider: “Yeah, Sessegnon.

“I thought Sessegnon was a shining light in a poor performance last night and Jose used the game as an opportunity to play young players and fringe players who haven’t thrived.

“The only one who stood out last night was Sessegnon, I thought he looked good defensively, as he was chasing back as well as going forward.

“He got his goal from a brilliant strike and I think he really took his opportunity.

“And I think there’s an opportunity for him to start games and play due to the way Jose plays Kane with three behind him.

“It would be Alli, Son, Eriksen but without Eriksen out of sorts, there’s a real chance for Sessegnon to make that spot his own behind Harry Kane.”

Sessegnon scored the first goal of his Tottenham career against Bayern Munich after previously racking up his first assist in his Champions League debut against Red Star Belgrade.

The teenage sensation saw the start of his Spurs career disrupted by a hamstring injury as it saw him unavailable for the club’s first 13 matches of the season.
