Exclusive: Ryan Christie tipped to reject Celtic transfer as talks launched

Alan Hutton has tipped Celtic attacker Ryan Christie to turn down any transfer interest and remain at Parkhead for a couple more seasons.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the 25-year-old has the time to win more silverware with the Hoops before considering leaving for a new challenge.

Christie’s current Celtic contract is set to run until 2022, although Neil Lennon has confirmed the club plan to open talks over a new and improved deal.

Having seen Christie net 19 goals and contribute 16 assists across all competitions this season, Hutton believes that there will be more and more teams looking at a potential transfer raid.

However, the ex-defender has tipped the Hoops ace to turn down any advances for another year or two.

Asked if he thought teams were looking at Christie, Hutton told Football Insider: “I would have thought so – anyone who’s scoring that number of goals consistently and putting in performances, whether it be in the league or Europe, he’s definitely been a shining light this season.

“I’m pretty sure there will be people having a little closer look at him but I just believe that Celtic trying to go for 10 in a row, they’ve won so much as it is, he’s still very young, he’s got time on his hands for that if he wants to go in the future.

“It would cause him no harm to stay for another two, three seasons and then possibly look, or just a couple seasons and then look what’s happening in the future.”

Christie has netted 32 goals in 96 appearances for Celtic, with a further 26 assists under his belt.

He has won three Premiership titles, two Scottish League Cups and one Scottish Cup since his arrival at Parkhead.

In other Celtic news, Frank McAvennie has revealed he has spoke to Christie’s dad about Ryan’s future.
