Fulham have joined Sheffield United in the hunt for Leicester City midfielder Daniel Amartey, Football Insider understands.
Premier League new boys Sheffield United have made an approach to their Premier League rivals about the availability of the 24-year-old as they look to strengthen their squad before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.
A Fulham source has told Football Insider the club have also made contact with Leicester about Amartey and are ready to battle the Blades for his signature.
The Ghana international has emerged as a top target for the two clubs as he is equally adept at playing in central midfield as well as at centre-back.
Amartey has struggled to hold down a regular place in the highly competitive Leicester side since his arrival from FC Copenhagen in January 2016.
But he was a member of the club’s Premier League title-winning side of the 2015/16 season and has accumulated over 60 appearances during his three-and-a-half years at the Walkers Stadium.
Fulham, who lost their opening Championship game of the season to Barnsley, are in the market for midfield reinforcements after offloading Jean Michael Seri and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa this summer and Amartey figures highly on their wanted list.
Leicester have yet to make a decision on whether or not to let Amarety leave amid the interest from Sheffield United and Fulham.
In other Sheffield United news, Football Insider has been told by Darren Bent that the Blades may sign a Leeds United first teamer before the transfer deadline.
