Southampton have made a move to sign Tottenham defender Kyle Walker-Peters on loan, Football Insider understands.

The Saints are in the market for a new right-back before Thursday's transfer deadline and they have identified the 22-year-old product of the Spurs academy as their top target.

A Southampton source has told Football Insider the club have been given indications during enquiries that Walker-Peters is available for loan even though Kieran Trippier has been sold to Atletico Madrid and Serge Aurier is in talks to join Paris Saint-Germain permanently.

Walker-Peters has featured prominently for Tottenham during pre-season following Trippier's exit and an injury to Juan Foyth.

Should Aurier depart to French champions PSG. it would leave Walker-Peters as the only available right-back to Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the Premier League opening weekend.

Nevertheless, Tottenham boss Pochettino has made up his mind to loan out the versatile full-back before Thursday's deadline should the Champions League runners-up be able to bring in a new right-back.

Walker-Peters is highly regarded at Spurs having made 19 first-team appearances for the club, but the feel he could benefit by going out on loan to another Premier League club to get guaranteed first-team action.
