Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho would be a “great signing” for Tottenham if he can rediscover the form he showed at Liverpool, according to Alex Bruce.
The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has lauded the “huge impact” the Brazilian had at Anfield and believes he could do the same thing at Spurs.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Lilywhites have told Barcelona they are keen on signing the 27-year-old this summer but only on a loan or a loan-to-buy deal.
It is understood they would also be looking to only pay part of his reported £200,000-a-week wages while there would also be a multi-million-pound loan fee for Spurs to splash out on.
Bayern Munich confirmed last week that they will not be taking up their option to buy the attacking midfielder after his loan spell in Germany.
Bruce believes Coutinho could be one of many high-profile loans this summer and insists he would be an exciting addition to the Spurs ranks.
Bruce told Football Insider: “Well it would be a great signing, wouldn’t it? He’s been in the Premier League before and had a huge impact with Liverpool and obviously, if he comes back to the Premier League, Spurs will be hoping he has a similar impact.
“With the loans, they’ll do a deal on the wages but clubs will need to get players off wage bills and things like that so I think the loan market will be very active.
Coutinho has started 22 of his 32 appearances on loan at Bayern this season, with nine goals and eight assists under his belt.
He has a total of 152 Premier League games under his belt after his time at Liverpool, scoring 41 times and setting up a further 37 goals for his teammates.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club may offer £15m-valued ace in part-exchange for 24-year-old.
