Blackpool are on the verge of signing Sunderland target Jerry Yates, Football Insider can reveal.
The Rotherham striker is undergoing a medical with Neil Critchley’s side today after the clubs agreed on a six-figure fee.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that a deal could be finalised in the next 24 hours.
This site broke the news of the Black Cats’ interest in the centre-forward last month but Blackpool have leapfrogged their League One rivals in the race for the 23-year-old.
They are now discussing personal terms with the striker after their bid was accepted yesterday.
It appears to be only a matter of time before The Tangerines announce the capture of Yates.
Rotherham recently triggered a 12-month extension clause in the player’s contract to ensure they will receive a fee for his services should he leave this summer.
Yates impressed on loan at League Two side Swindon Town last season and scored 14 goals in 36 appearances.
Kevin Phillips urged his former club, Sunderland, to sign Yates last month: “The kid knows where the back of the net is so it could turn out to be a real good signing.”
However, the Doncaster-born forward is now expected to swap Yorkshire for the West Coast and will likely play against Phil Parkinson’s side next season.
