Swansea City have opened talks with Plymouth attacker Ruben Lameiras over a possible free transfer move to the Liberty Stadium, Football Insider understands.

The Portuguese midfielder is out of contract at Plymouth next month and looks set to leave the club following their relegation to League Two.

Lameiras, 24, was one of Plymouth's shining lights in a disappointing campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists in 45 games in all competitions and was named the club's Player of the Year.

The Spurs academy product's impressive performances in League One this season have brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid and scouts have been making regular checks on the skilful playmaker.

French side Bordeaux have expressed an interest in Lameiras, but a Swansea source has told Football Insider the club have entered the race for his signature as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion from the Championship next season.

Swansea see Lameiras as someone who would fit in with their attractive passing style of football and also someone they could develop into a potential star.

The source explained the player comes strongly recommended by Tottenham's long-standing and highly respected academy director John McDermott.
