Alex Bruce insists that Brighton defender Shane Duffy would be a “great signing for Celtic this summer.
The former Kilmarnock and Hull star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has been left raving over the 28-year-old powerhouse and believes he would add some much-needed steel to the Hoops’ backline.
The Daily Mail report that the Hoops have held talks over a potential one-year loan deal for the centre-back and that the Republic of Ireland international is keen to move to Parkhead.
The 33-cap international, who is a known Celtic fan, struggled for regular game time last season and made just 14 starts for Brighton.
Bruce insists the centre-back would be a welcome addition to Neil Lennon’s squad to compete with the likes of Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer.
Asked if Duffy would be a fantastic signing for Celtic, Bruce told Football Insider: “Yeah, good luck to whoever’s going to bully him because he’s a bit of an old fashioned throwback.
“Big, powerful, tough centre-half and if he does go to Celtic I’m sure he’d be a great signing for them, I’m sure.
“He’s exactly what you would want from the centre-half, he’s consistent, he gives you everything he’s got, he’s brave, he’s tough, he throws his body on the line.”
Duffy has a total of 130 appearances under his belt for Brighton, while he has also had spells at Everton and Blackburn Rovers over the years.
He is four games away from making 100 Premier League appearances and has featured 132 times in the Championship.
