Darren Bent believes that Tottenham may struggle to find a player willing to be involved in a swap deal for Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England striker admits it is all well and good offering up “a sweetener” but that there is no guarantee any players would want to move in the opposite direction.
Spurs are understood to be offering up a number of different options to Swansea to get a deal for Wales international Rodon over the line before Friday’s domestic transfer deadline.
Bent admits a swap deal is good in theory but that making it happen is easier said than done.
Bent told Football Insider: “I guess it’s one of those things where they need to find a player at Spurs who’s happy to drop down to the Championship.
“I think that’s going to be the hard thing, it’s all well and good offering these pieces to Swansea as kind of a sweetener in the deal but you’ve got to find players who are willing to drop into the Championship and give up their Premier League credentials.
“That’s going to be the stumbling block but if they can get it over the line and find pieces that are willing to do that, that would be really, really good.”
Rodon has established himself as a mainstay for boyhood club Swansea since breaking through the youth ranks in south Wales.
He has played in all five of the Swans’ games this season and has six international caps under his belt.
