Everton have knocked back two offers for man-of-the-moment Mason Holgate, Football Insider can reveal.
The 23-year-old defender is a player in demand after a series of excellent displays at the heart of the Merseysiders’ defence.
An Everton source has told Football Insider that the club have fielded two bids for Holgate this month and have rejected them both.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti does not want to losing the rising star, who has 18 months remaining on his contract.
Football Insider first revealed interest from Newcastle United last month, while Bournemouth and Sheffield United have also been closely monitoring him.
This comes at a time when Holgate is also on the radar of England manager Gareth Southgate.
Football Insider has learned that Southgate and his coaching staff have watched the versatile defender in action in each of Everton’s last three matches.
They were Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Ham, a 1-0 home win over Brighton and a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City.
Predominantly a centre-back, Holgate can also play at right-back and even slotted into the central midfield alongside Tom Davies last month due to a series of senior player injuries in that position.
The former England Under-21 international began the season on the bench as Silva chose Yerry Mina and Michael Keane as his first choice partnership in central defence.
But he’s now established as Mina’s regular partner and but has started 17 consecutive matches in all competitions.
