West Ham United are in advanced talks to sign former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke midfielder Steven N’zonzi, Football Insider can reveal.
The Roma midfielder is currently on loan at Galatasaray but is keen to cut the deal short and find a new club after falling out of favour.
A West Ham source has told Football Insider that the club have made a breakthrough in their pursuit of N’zonzi as Roma are willing to let him go.
The Hammers are negotiating a deal in which the France 2018 World Cup winner would initially join on loan.
Manager David Moyes sees Nzonzi as an ideal addition to his squad as he will provide power, athleticism and experience to the midfield in the second half of the season.
Crucially, he also has experience of the Premier League and should need little time to adapt to the English top flight.
Roma are listening to offers for the experienced campaigner he does not figure in their plans going forward.
West Ham have held talks with multiple midfield targets this month but have yet to agree a deal.
They lost out to Tottenham for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes and have also failed in bids for Stoke City’s Joe Allen and Genk’s Sander Berge.
N’zonzi spent six years in the Premier League with Blackburn and Stoke before leaving for Sevilla in 2015.
He also has 14 full France caps as well as experience in the French, Spanish, Italian and Turkish league.
