Exclusive: Whelan savages £28m Everton star who's 'Shown absolutely nothing'
Alex Iwobi has “shown absolutely nothing” for Everton after being given the chance to prove himself by Carlo Ancelotti, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has torn into the 24-year-old after admitting the Nigeria ace had “so much potential” at Goodison Park.
Iwobi has been a regular from the bench for the Toffees this season but his only league start, which came against Southampton, ended with him getting hooked at half-time.
Whelan has suggested the Toffees should be pushing for a top-six finish with the players at their disposal and that Iwobi had offered nothing to the cause at Goodison Park.
“Iwobi has done nothing,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“I think the frustration now is that he came with so much potential and has shown absolutely nothing since his time at Everton. He was given an opportunity against Southampton and he was taken off at halftime.
“Everton will be looking to improve again after a fantastic start, dying off a little bit now but now they’ve got Richarlison back and Rodriguez they’ll be looking to kick on again because they won’t just be happy mid-table.
“They should be looking, really, realistically, with the players that they’ve got and the money that they’ve spent, to be finishing and pushing for the top six.”
Iwobi has scored a total of three goals and chipped in with a further three assists in his 38 appearances for Everton since signing from Arsenal for an initial £28million.
