Noel Whelan suggested Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud would be perfect for Everton as he’s the sort of player they need.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-striker revealed that he thought the Toffees needed a goalscorer and highlighted how the Toffees already have pace, as well as creativity, covered.
It was recently reported that Giroud is in-demand in the January window with Inter Milan, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Bordeaux already keen on him.
The 33-year-old striker has only featured seven times for the Blues this season and his contract is set to expire in the summer.
Whelan explained that the Toffees need a player who could be a presence upfront and for that reason believes Giroud wouldn’t be the worst signing the club could make.
“They need some kind of goalscorer,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“We know they have pace and creativity.
“They have Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has come into his own, he feels like he has more belief in his game and he’s added goals.
“Olivier Giroud wouldn’t be the worst signing Everton have ever made, put it that way.
“I think they need a presence up front, someone who the wingmen can cut inside and play off and he’s the perfect sort of player for them.”
The Frenchman has been at Stamford Bridge since joining Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2018.
Giroud has played 225 times in the Premier League during his career so far and has racked up 78 goals in the process.
