Exclusive: Wolves forward agrees deadline-day loan after deal hijacked

Burton Albion are set to sign Wolves striker Niall Ennis after hijacking his loan move to Doncaster Rovers, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site revealed earlier this week the forward, 21, had been all set to join League One outfit Doncaster on a season-long loan.

But Burton have ambushed their third-tier rivals and a source at Wolves has told Football Insider that Ennis is set to join Nigel Clough’s side ahead of the 5pm transfer cut-off.

It will be quite a coup for the League One outfit, given Ennis spent the whole of last season at Doncaster.

The young forward managed to score six goals and chip in with a further four assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

At Wolves, Ennis has made only a single senior appearance and has yet to establish himself under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nevertheless, the Premier League outfit are in negotiations to extend his contract at Molineux and believe he has a long-term future at the club.

Losing out on their former loanee is a huge blow to manager Darren Moore, who had been keen to take Ennis back for a second year after a solid start to the 2020/21 campaign for the club.

Rovers have picked up two wins, a draw and suffered one defeat in their opening four fixtures, while they were knocked out of the League Cup by Blackburn Rovers.

By contrast, Burton are 23rd in League One, 12 places adrift of 11th-placed Doncaster.

In other news, Swansea City are in advanced talks to sign £3m Wolves star in shock late deal.
