Wolves are leading Tottenham in the chase to sign Bolton Wanderers youngster Luca Connell after opening talks over a deal, Football Insider understands.

Connell is highly-rated after breaking into the Bolton side this season and his impressive displays have brought him to the attention of a host of Premier League clubs.

The versatile 18-year-old, who can play in defence as well as midfield, made 12 appearances in all competitions for Bolton this season and he is regarded as one of the best young emerging talents in the country.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Tottenham have tabled a contract offer to the teenage rising star.

The likes of Everton, Southampton and Brighton have all been credited with an interest in Connell, but a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Wolves are in pole position to land him this window.

The Republic of Ireland youth international is out of contract in the summer and can move with just training compensation paid to Bolton.

Wolves are determined to win the race for Connell and negotiations are ongoing between all parties as they look to lure him to Molineux.

Wolves, who finished seventh in the Premier League this season, are looking to bring in more young talents to supplement the first-team next season.
