Wolves have had a sensational £15million bid rejected by Bournemouth for striker Benik Afobe, Football Insider sources understand.

Wolves have been searching for a new striker all summer as Nuno Espirto Santo looks to bring in a proven spearhead to add to his squad and Afobe has been among their top targets.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Wolves have firmed up their interest in Afobe with their deadline day bid, which is a huge sum for a Championship club.

But Bournemouth have rebuffed their overtures, with Eddie Howe's side reluctant to lose the player after a difficult start to the new season.

Afobe enjoyed a successful spell at Wolves before his move to Bournemouth, scoring 22 goals in just 46 appearances for the club after arriving from Arsenal.

Afobe struggled for game time at Bournemouth last season, making only 14 Premier League starts and scoring six goals for the Cherries.

The 24-year-old has found himself pushed further down the pecking order at Bournemouth this season following the arrival of England international Jermain Defoe on a free transfer from Sunderland this summer.

Afobe started last weekend's defeat to Manchester City on the bench and a number of clubs have been keeping tabs on his situation on the South Coast.
