Expert 'feels sorry for' Joe Gomez at Liverpool after what he's spotted
Alan Hutton “feels sorry for” Joe Gomez amid a tricky spell at Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said Gomez has been “under a microscope” which has caused some of his problems.
The 25-year-old was axed from Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI for the 2-0 win over Napoli on Tuesday (2 November).
The centre-back was replaced by the returning Ibrahima Konate.
Despite a man of the match performance in the 1-0 victory over Man City last month, Gomez has been unable to play at a high level consistently.
He was part of the defensive line for the 2-1 defeat to Leeds United last weekend (29 October) and the 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Nottingham Forest the previous week.

Hutton insisted things have not been easy for the England international.
“I do feel sorry for him as a defender,” he told Football Insider.
“I understand that these situations come up. Maybe a lack of concentration, a different formation, whatever. We know he is a good player but when you are at Liverpool you have to play at a high level, consistently, week in week out.
“You are under a microscope at times and I think that is where his problems come from, that consistency. He maybe just switches off now and then.
“This Liverpool team are not used to being attacked as much with the defence being put under so much pressure. With Konate coming back breathing down his neck, you do feel for Gomez but you need to play at a high level week in week out to stay in the team.“
