Expert suggests real reason for 'bizarre' Harry Kane reveal at Tottenham after latest - 'no way'

Kevin Campbell has claimed Tottenham boss Antonio Conte may be trying to “take some pressure” away from Harry Kane after he revealed the striker’s battle with fatigue.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted “there’s no way” the 29-year-old should be lacking in energy only halfway into the season.

Speaking after the League Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest last week and quoted by the BBC (9 November), Conte claimed Kane was “very, very tired” and had to sit out a training session in the build-up to the game.

The striker has started all 22 of Tottenham’s games this season, notching 13 goals and three assists.

Kane has since jetted off with England to the World Cup in Qatar – where he could play a further seven games in less than a month.

The striker can become the Three Lions’ greatest-ever goalscorer with three strikes at the tournament.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s November.

“How’s he already fatigued? It makes absolutely no sense, it’s bizarre.

“But Conte, sometimes he says these things to maybe just take some pressure off of Harry Kane – and I understand that.

“Kane has always started almost every game for Tottenham in a season, I can’t see why it’s any different this season.

“He’s got a World Cup coming up in a matter of days, there’s no way he’s fatigued.”

Kane’s goals have helped Tottenham to fourth in the Premier League as they sign off for the mid-season World Cup break.

The Lilywhites face Brentford on Boxing Day on their return to Premier League action.
