Fabian Schar has 'hit the jackpot' as 'phenomenal' Newcastle prediction made - pundit
Fabian Schar has “hit the jackpot” after signing a new deal at Newcastle United.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about “the first of many” new deals at St James’ Park.
The central defender was due to be out of contract this summer but has become a key player under Eddie Howe.
The Switzerland international only made two appearances under Steve Bruce this season.
McAvennie insists Schar has earned his new deal after improving under Howe.

“He couldn’t get a game under Steven Bruce and that defence was awful,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Howe has brought him in and he’s been fantastic so I’m delighted for him.
“He’s hit the jackpot really because Newcastle is the place to be. It’s no surprise to see Schar improve.
“When you sign better players, you play better. The change of manager helped too.
“He’s earned this new deal and there is no reason he won’t be starting games next season.
“That would be phenomenal considering where he was at the start of the season.
“I imagine this is the first of many new contracts being drawn up at Newcastle because they are safe now, they can plan for the summer.
“It’s also a great sign to the other players, if you perform well, you will be rewarded.”
Schar has now made 21 appearances under Howe, completing 90 minutes on every occasion.
He has made 98 total appearances for the Magpies, scoring nine goals.
