'Fantastic' - Exclusive: McNamara raves over 'Excellent' Celtic ace Lennon thinks is underrated
Jackie McNamara was left drooling over Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor after his performance in the Hoops’ win over Motherwell.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Parkhead and Scotland star believes people are finally taking notice of the 26-year-old after establishing himself as a mainstay for the Bhoys in recent years.
Speaking after the game, manager Neil Lennon insisted that the Scottish international has been “so underrated” at times but that he knows what an “unbelievable” player he can be.
McNamara says that spectators and opponents are now recognising what he brings to the Celtic team and that he has been remarkable in keeping up his high levels of performances.
McNamara told Football Insider: “I think he’s getting the rewards now, people are taking more notice of him now because of his all-round game.
“Obviously I thought last night was excellent, his goal was fantastic as well. I think he does everything simple, keeps the ball moving, keeps the game ticking along.
“I think he’s been very consistent, not just turning out every week but his performances over the last couple of seasons – and his fitness levels.”
McGregor has played regularly for both club and country over the last three seasons, with 42 appearances already under his belt in the current campaign.
The 17/18 season saw him turn out 55 times across all competitions for the Hoops while last term had him playing 59 games, not including the times he featured for Scotland.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that the club have tasked Nicky Hammond in finding a new senior player after a big development at Parkhead.
