Finally some great news about the Newcastle takeover after Insider comments

Newcastle fans have finally been given something to cheer about with the comments from financial expert Kieran Maguire.
Maguire was talking after the recent Premier League TV deal that saw the money paid by the media to show matches drop.
This was the next milestone in the long drawn-out takeover talks, with some claiming that Mike Ashley was holding on in the hope that the Newcastle value would go up.
By contrast, Maguire – an insider with knowledge who is said to know individuals involved in the selling process – has said that this should bring the two sides closer together.
Talking in the Chronicle, he said, “I think Mike Ashley was gambling – he is a gambler.”
“He was gambling on a 15-20% rise in the domestic TV rates and given that they have not managed to sell the final packages and the Premier League has gone back to the drawing board to try and sell them, I think we can assume they’ll be £300-400million short on the previous deals.
“If Mike Ashley was banking on this deal going up by 15-20% and they are actually down 10% that will have an impact on what Amanda Staveley or anyone else who is interested in buying Newcastle is going to pay. ”
“I think this allows them to reach a conclusion if both parties are serious about this transaction.”
This is great news for Newcastle fans but there is one other area of uncertainty that could still scupper the deal.
Newcastle are currently in 13th in the Premier League, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
They’re still only two points above the relegation zone and the club’s Premier League survival will have a much bigger impact on the value of the club.
The TV deal might well have narrowed the gap between the two sides – if indeed the Staveley offer was serious – but relegation would blow them apart.
The only thing that can change that is mathematical certainty and Newcastle need to get the points they need on the board as soon as possible.
If that happens then Newcastle fans might finally get to wave goodbye to one of the most contentious figures in the club’s history.
