Finance guru: Celtic fans will 'love' new Dermot Desmond takeover claim

Celtic fans will “love” Dermot Desmond’s claim that he will not sell his stake in the club even at a vastly inflated price.

So says finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops’ largest individual shareholder’s comments.

The Irishman, 71, told Celtic TV last Friday (8 April): “Even if somebody offers me a price three or four times the share price, I’m not selling.”

Desmond, a billionaire from his other business interests, also emphasised the fact that he has been a Hoops fan since childhood.

Plumley assessed the merits of having a bonafide supporter in the driving seat at Parkhead.

“There are good and bad aspects to this,” the Sheffield Hallam University told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Most fans would argue that it is a good thing to have a genuine supporter of the club in charge.

“Business investment probably takes on a slightly different form as a fan.

“But the flip side is that if somebody did offer three or four times the share price, they might have the potential to grow the club even further.

“That is a very hypothetical situation, but you can see the good and bad here.

“However, in general, most fans would love to keep an owner who is passionate and personally invested in the club.”

Celtic are six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with five matches to go.

Ange Postecoglou’s side also face Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday (17 April).
