Connor Goldson’s transfer value has rocketed since Rangers prised him from Brighton for £3.3million.
That is according to Kieran Maguire, football finance expert and new Football Insider columnist, speaking exclusively to correspondent Adam Williams about the bedrock of Steven Gerrard’s title-chasing side.
Football Insider revealed at the end of last year that Rangers are planning to offer Goldson a new contract as a reward for his heroics this season.
The centre-back, 28, has entered the final two years of his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2022.
Goldson has played every minute of his team’s 24 league matches this season, as he has remarkably in all 35 of their games across all competitions.
Maguire, who supports Brighton, is in no doubt the 2018 signing has been a brilliant-value recruit who fully vindicates Rangers’ transfer policy.
He told Football Insider: “I remember when they signed Connor Goldson from Brighton, he was a good player but his opportunities were reduced in the Premier League.
“They paid £3.3million for him and he’s worth a lot more than that now.”
Maguire expects Rangers to continue to source uncut gems from the English Championship as the demands are not too dissimilar to the upper echelons of the Scottish top flight.
“There are players who can play an awful lot of games in that division, which would make sense for the Scottish Premiership too,” he added.
Goldson has already made 141 appearances for Rangers halfway through his third season at the club.
The 6ft 3in defender has demonstrated his value at both ends of the pitch and has also weighed in with seven goals this term.
