Alan Hutton has shared great insight into the waiting game being played by Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard over a new contract.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the French hitman will wait until the summer to see what other offers are on the table before making a decision.

Potential suitors for Edouard have made what are said to be "concrete steps" over securing his capture during the summer transfer window.

The Coronavirus pandemic has caused financial chaos in football and transfer values are expected to drop significantly when the market does reopen.

Hutton believes that the striker may have had his head turned by interest from elsewhere and suggests the Hoops' efforts to tie him down right now will be in vain.

Asked what impact the current situation could have on Edouard's future, Hutton told Football Insider: "In my opinion, I'd probably say that Edouard would probably think it easier to get a move. If there's a bid on the table from Celtic for him and he's happy with it, wouldn't you just sign it?

"If you were happy, you could just sign it. If your head's a little bit turned and you're looking elsewhere, if you want to go try the Premier League, why would you sign a new five-year deal, tie yourself down and then can't get a move because Celtic can then ask for whatever they want?

"It's going to be very difficult to move if that happens so in my opinion, I think he's waiting until the summer, he won't sign anything, he'll wait till the summer, what offers come in, what moves are there and then take it from there.

"I think a lot of the cards, he's holding at the moment. He's in a good position."
