Celtic have received a financial injection from the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) after it posted a record-breaking revenue last season.

The SPFL paid clubs £33.7million in 2023-24 after recording a turnover of £45.1m.

As per a Companies House submission on Thursday (18 December), the governing body reported its updated accounts for the fiscal year up to 31 May, showing a turnover of £50.4m.

That is a new record for the SPFL, which paid out £35.1m in fees to clubs from across its four tiers, marking a £1.4m increase on the previous year.

The exact distribution to clubs in Scotland’s top flight is not disclosed, but Celtic are expected to have received a record-breaking fee after claiming their fourth successive Scottish Premiership title.

Celtic blow Rangers away after official documents filed

Celtic strengthened the financial gap between themselves and Rangers last season.

It was revealed in September Celtic posted a new club-record revenue in 2024-25 after their turnover increased from £124.6m in 2023-24 to £143.6m.

The Hoops’ finances were boosted by their run to the Champions League knock-out round play-offs before being narrowly beaten by Bayern Munich.

Celtic earned £38m in prize money from the Champions League due to the riches on offer in European football’s elite club competition.

Rangers also generated a record revenue last season, with their turnover improving from £88.3m to £94.1m at Ibrox.

However, that is still significantly down on Celtic’s financial figures, having finished 17 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership.

Wilfried Nancy facing sack calls after Celtic blow

Celtic and Rangers could be set to suffer a financial blow after underperforming in the opening months of this season.

Hearts are currently six points clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, while Rangers are a further three points off the pace.

The Glasgow giants have both made managerial changes this season, with Danny Rohl replacing Russell Martin at Ibrox and Wilfried Nancy appointed as Brendan Rodgers’s successor.

Nancy has faced sack calls from Celtic fans after losing all four of his opening games since taking charge at Parkhead.

However, the Hoops’ board are set to stick by the French manager as he prepares his side to take on Aberdeen on Sunday (21 December).
