Chelsea's transfer policy of academy player sales kicks straight back into gear this summer and is already set to pay dividends.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake face a continued battle to balance the books at Stamford Bridge with over £1billion spent since they took charge back in 2022, and those significant outlays are set to continue.

Chelsea already have a number of additions lined up this summer, with Ecuadorian wonderkid Kendry Paez set to arrive after his 18th birthday, and Enzo Maresca's squad set for another sizeable overhaul.

Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider on 6 April that Boehly simply "cannot afford" to saddle Chelsea with any more debt, and the sale of fringe players aplenty is set to take place for next season.

Chelsea to seal £10m Bashir Humphreys sale

One of 17 home-grown or young players sent out on loan by Chelsea last term was Bashir Humphreys, who joined Burnley in August after Football Insider had also reported interest from rivals Leeds United.

Humphreys has been a fairly regular fixture at Turf Moor and impressed across several positions, in a season which has culminated with both Leeds and Burnley winning promotion to the Premier League.

As a result, journalist Alan Nixon has reported via his Patreon page (22 April) that Humphreys' loan move at Turf Moor will now become a permanent transfer in the summer; one of four such deals to do so.

As well as Jaidon Anthony, Marcus Edwards and Zian Flemming, Burnley will sign Humphreys for a fee in the region of £10million, after they recently took out a £40m loan which will cover the four purchases.

Chelsea prepare for another summer of change

Humphreys has been part of the Championship's best-ever defence this season, with Burnley on course to concede just 15 goals with James Trafford on the verge of a clean-sheet record in the second-tier.

Maresca's top priority will be to find an upgrade on Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen between the sticks at Stamford Bridge, and could look to bring back Kepa Arrizabalaga after his form at Bournemouth.

Chelsea will also be in the market for a number nine and have a unique opportunity to sign Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy, but regardless of who arrives, expect Maresca to be at the helm of another new-look squad next season.
