Alan Hutton has claimed tying Ryan Christie down to a new contract would be "like a new signing" for Celtic.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender raved over the 26-year-old's bright start to the new campaign.

As reported by The Scottish Sun (August 8th), fresh talks have taken place between player and club but no concrete offer has been tabled.

The newspaper also claims that Christie, who's current terms expire in January, is open to signing a deal.

The Scotland international is reportedly enjoying working under new Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou.

Hutton heralded the attacking midfielder's form under the Australian manager.

He insisted Christie signing a new deal would be a major boost for the Bhoys.

“I think it’s been a difficult situation for Ryan." Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge.

“His contract is running down, and he obviously feels that he is a key player at the club, and he wants the contract offer to reflect that.

“There’s probably a bit of frustration that he hasn’t been offered terms which he is happy with.

“The change in manager has looked to have a positive effect. We’ve seen him hit the ground running at the start of this season, he’s been energetic and involved in the play.

“He got three assists at the weekend – if Furuhashi doesn’t get a hattrick then Christie gets man of the match. Some of his passing was sublime.

“If Celtic can keep hold of him and he plays consistently to that level, then it will be like a new signing.”

Christie contributed three assists against Dundee on Sunday and scored in the win Jablonec last week.
