Rangers target Louis Appere may have played his last game for Dundee United after the dramatic SPFL vote to end the season, Football Insider can reveal.

Dundee yesterday voted yes to the governing body's proposal which ended the Championship, League One and League Two.

A United source has told Football Insider that it could spell the beginning of the end of Appere's time at the club following his transformative campaign.

The door has opened for the wide forward's suitors to try and prise him from Tannadice this summer.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Stoke City have joined Rangers in the race to land the rising star.

United have placed a £2m valuation on Appere and are likely to let him go if it is met, regardless of promotion.

That has been confirmed by the SPL vote, although the possibility of a 14-team top flight for next season is now on the agenda amid extraordinary events behind the scenes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The future of Appere is a major issue for United ahead of the summer after his career-changing campaign.

The 21-year-old winger, who is of dual French and Scottish citizenship, has transformed from reserve forward to a shining light in Robbie Neilson's side.

Appere's 33 appearances in all competitions this season for United have yielded six goals and five assists.

He was operating mainly on the right wing before the season was suspended last month but can also play on the left and down the middle.

Neilson has been gushing in his praise of Appere, hailing him as "brilliant" and his form this season as a delightful surprise.
