Charlton Athletic have had a £4million bid for Peterborough striker Ivan Toney rejected, Football Insider understands.

Championship new boys Charlton have been scouring the transfer market for a new striker and had set their sights on Toney.

However, a Peterborough source has told Football Insider that the club is determined to keep hold of their star striker and they have knocked back Charlton's offer for Toney.

A number of other Championship clubs have shown an interest in Toney this summer, but Peterborough have been steadfast in their stance to keep the former Newcastle man.

Toney scored 23 goals in all competitions for Peterborough last season and he has already got off the mark this season with a goal in the opening day defeat to Fleetwood.

He signed for Newcastle in 2015 but only made four appearances for the club and spent the majority of his time on loan at Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe and Wiagn.
