Plymouth Argyle have agreed to sign Wolves forward Niall Ennis on a permanent deal, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 21-year-old recently returned to Molineux after his season-long loan deal at Burton Albion was terminated at the midway point.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the forward has finalised an 18-month contract with the League One club and is set to complete the move in the coming days.

Ennis struggled while on loan at Burton Albion for the first half of the 2020/21 campaign and failed to to score in 10 appearances for the third-tier outfit, of which seven were starts.

He enjoyed a far more successful period at Doncaster Rovers last season, where his 32 appearances across all competitions yielded six goals and four assists.

Doncaster tried to re-sign Ennis in October, in light of his first spell, but were hijacked by Burton at the eleventh hour.

The young striker made his debut for Wolves in February 2019 as a substitute in an FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town, but he has not featured for the senior side since.

A product of the Wanderers academy, Ennis scored 12 goals in 48 games for the club's Under-23s.

He has struggled to break into the Nuno Espirito Santo's first team with the likes of Raul Jimenez and big-money signing Fabio Silva ahead of him in the Molineux pecking order.
