Ed Francis has agreed to join Harrogate Town on a free transfer after terminating his Wolves contract, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 21-year-old defender quit Molineux in October, as revealed by this site, even though he had a deal running until June 2021.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the centre-back has found a new club as he finalises a move to League Two side Harrogate.

Francis has agreed the terms of a contract that runs until the end of the season.

It gives the young defender the chance to ignite a career that had stalled at Wolves.

He spent nearly two years at Molineux after signing from Man City in January 2019 but did not make a senior appearance for the club.

Francis spent the second half of last season on loan at Swiss side Grasshoppers but failed to make a competitive appearance, partly because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He did not want to continue playing age-group football for Wolves Under-23s, where he made 21 appearances.

So, in order to get crucial senior experience, the England Under-19 cap mutually agreed to leave the Premier League club.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side already boast the likes of Conor Coady, Willy Boly and Roman Saiss in the heart of their defence.

Wolves also bolstered their backline during the last window with the additions of Ki-Jana Hoever, Marcal, Nelson Semedo and Rayan Ait Nouri, all of whom have  signed long-term deals with the club.
