Exclusive: Darren Bent suggests 51-cap Tottenham star may be sold for £15m
Darren Bent says that he would not pay £20million to sign Tottenham defender Serge Aurier and suggests a price closer to £15million would be fair.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England striker says that the Ivorian international has proven himself to be a liability in defence during his time in north London and that his only redeeming feature is his vast experience for club and country.
Despite Tottenham seeking £20million for his services, Bent insists a figure closer to £15million would be more accurate considering his defensive lapses while in England.
Bent told Football Insider: "Look at how good Toby Alderweireld's been and no one paid the £25million for him. He is very, very good and no one's paid. When it comes to Serge Aurier, we've seen defensively how much of a liability he is.
"For me, I'm not paying £20million but I can understand why some people would. He's got that international experience, he's played in some high profile games and for that reason there, you can't buy international experience.
"I wouldn't pay £20million for him. (£15million a fair price?) Yeah, he is really experienced."
Aurier has battled it out with the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters and Davinson Sanchez for a place in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI this season, with former first-choice right-back Kieran Trippier departing for Atletico Madrid over the summer transfer window.
The 51-cap international star has played just 45 times for Tottenham in over two years at the club, with just three of those coming in the Premier League this season.
In other Tottenham news, Danny Mills suggests there are "several offers on the table" for one figure at Spurs.
