Danny Mills has touted a big-money transfer deal for Tottenham as they reportedly hold talks over a new deal for rising star Japhet Tanganga.

The former Leeds United and England full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the 20-year-old is a dazzling prospect that the fans will be desperate to keep tied down.

The Lilywhites are reportedly in discussions with the promising defender over a significant wage increase after emerging as a serious first-team option for manager Jose Mourinho.

Mills says that the youngster has got all the attributes to become a regular for the north London heavyweights and that handing him a new deal could result in a hefty transfer fee should suitors come in for him.

Asked if a new contract was something for fans to celebrate, Mills told Football Insider: "Oh definitely. That's what it is, isn't it? He's burst onto the scene.

"He's a real good prospect, he's got pace, he's got power, aggression, all these types of things that he's got.

"They'll be just thinking: 'This is a talent we've got a hold of here. Let's make sure we get him tied down either for ourselves to keep him long term or, failing that, it's a case of if someone is going to want to buy him, we'll get much more money for him.'"

Tanganga has played seven times for Spurs' first-team this season, operating as a left-back, a right-back and a centre-back under Mourinho.

His three Premier League outings have come in the Lilywhites' last four games, including playing the full 90 minutes in the win over Manchester City.
