Tottenham are planning talks about offering Danny Rose a pay-off to leave, Football Insider can reveal.

The England international, 30, has been frozen out at Spurs and his status was further emphasised when he was omitted from their 25-man Premier League squad announced yesterday.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club are now ready to explore more drastic measures to get Rose off their wage bill.

This includes offering a mutual termination of his contract, which has eight months remaining and is worth more than £70,000-a-week.

This possibility would see the club's academy product secure a handsome pay-off to leave but one which falls short of the full £2.5m-plus remaining on his deal.

West Ham agreed a similar deal with Jack Wilshere last month ahead of his contract with the club expiring next June.

Like Wilshere, Rose has struggled to regain his former heights and talks over potential transfers during the recent window all collapsed.

Newcastle cooled their interest in re-signing Rose earlier in the summer after he spent the second half of last season on loan at the club.

The writing has been on the wall for him at Tottenham since the £28million signing of Sergio Reguilon, who has slotted in at left-back to compete with Ben Davies for a starting place in Mourinho's side.

The Portugese fell out with Rose last season over the long-serving left-back's playing time, footage of which was shown in the Amazon documentary.
