Wolves are set to lose more than £60million in revenue if they are relegated from the Premier League this season, sources have told Football Insider.

Wolves have endured a poor start to the campaign as they currently sit bottom of the Premier League and are nine points from safety.

Vitor Pereira was sacked at the start of November after the Portuguese boss failed to win any of his 10 Premier League games in charge this season.

Wolves appointed Rob Edwards as Pereira’s replacement, but the new manager is facing an uphill task to keep them in the top flight.

The Molineux club, who have spent the past seven years in the Premier League, will face a significant drop in revenue if they fail to turn their form around over the coming months.

Wolves owners face takeover blow amid relegation fears

Although Wolves are not one of the Premier League's big hitters financially, relegation comes at a huge cost to any club.

The latest available club accounts revealed Sheffield United, who finished bottom of the Premier League in the 2023-24 season, earned just under £110m in top-flight payments for that campaign.

Meanwhile, Leeds United were paid £49m in parachute payments in 2023-24 after being relegated to the Championship, marking a £61m difference.

That is before any potential impact to commercial and matchday revenues are factored in, with clubs having much less appeal in the second tier compared to the Premier League.

Wolves’ latest published accounts for 2023-24 revealed their revenue stood at £177.7m.

There has been plenty of speculation around a Wolves takeover in recent weeks, with the club’s owners – Fosun International – reportedly looking for between £350-400m to agree a deal.

However, Football Insider revealed on 13 November Wolves’ value could drop by more than £200m if they are relegated this season, further increasing the stakes for Fosun.

Wolves to back Rob Edwards as January transfer plans revealed

The immediate priority at Molineux is doing everything they can to remain in the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on 12 November Wolves are expected to back Edwards with the necessary funds to make new signings in the January transfer window.

The 42-year-old joined the West Midlands side from Middlesbrough, who currently sit second in the Championship table.

Wolves have lost back-to-back matches against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa since Edwards took over.

Edwards is now preparing his side to take on Nottingham Forest in a must-win game at Molineux on Wednesday (3 December).
