Forget Vinicius: Tottenham tipped for £65m bid after making contact - Mills Exclusive

Tottenham would get better value out of a £65million deal for Danny Ings than taking up the £40million option with Benfica to make Carlos Vinicius' loan deal permanent.

That is the view of former England and Manchester City defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Spurs made a fresh move in their pursuit of the 28-year-old.

This site revealed Tottenham have "concrete" interest in Ings and have made contact with Southampton as he stalls over committing his future to the club.

It is understood Ings' future hangs in the balance as he has just 18 months left on his contract and has not put pen to paper on fresh terms, partly due to fears manager Ralph Hasenhutl may quit.

Spurs' current second choice striker Vinicius moved to north London for a £2.7million loan fee in the summer but has been limited to just one Premier League start.

The club have an option to make the deal permanent for £40.83million but Mills has claimed a move for Ings would be wiser.

He told Football Insider: “You look at it and go what is Danny Ings going to cost? How much more is he going to cost than Vinicius? And how soon do you want success?

“He’s proven in the Premier League, he’s done it time and time again. You’re thinking ‘Vinicus is going to cost us £45million. £65million, another £20million and you’re thinking I’d go for Ings at £65million'.

“Whether Southampton would let him go for that I don’t know but where is that cut-off point where you go ‘that’s about right’? 

“£65million for Southampton is a lot of money and he’s only got 18 months left so realistically around the £50million, £60million mark would be quite attractive for Southampton.”
