Ipswich set for transformation as £30m investment confirmed - Keith Wyness
Ipswich Town are making a "statement of intent" with their plans to build a new training ground.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Town squad will profit from a "big lift" after his experiences building training grounds with Everton and Aston Villa.
Ipswich, who were promoted from the Championship as runners-up last term, have long planned to improve their training facilities.
Speaking on the Life’s A Pitch podcast (9 October), CEO Mark Ashton revealed the club are entering planning permission for a new state-of-the-art base.
He claimed the development could cost anywhere from £20-30million and added that the Tractor Boys’ current facilities are the worst in the Premier League.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Ipswich are making a statement that they are putting together a group, with a very good manager, who are there for the long-term.
“A training ground which is modern and state-of-the-art is very important.
“It’s a wise investment.
“This is where the players are six days a week, so it’s got to be at the right level.
“I’ve overseen the building of training grounds at Aston Villa and Everton, so I know the effect it can have.
“The lift it gave David Moyes and the squad when we went to Finch Farm was a big one.
“It showed the players a statement of intent at the club, and gave the players a big lift - and it’ll be the same at Ipswich.
“It also shows the supporters that things are good at the club.”
