Leeds United are set to bank nearly £8m in transfer payments this month, according to the club's recently published accounts.

The Yorkshire giants were owed nearly £17m from other clubs for transfer fees at 30 June 2019.

Analysis from Football Insider has learned that the sum includes £7.7m of transfer payments due to United by the end of June 2020.

That cash will certainly come in handy for Leeds given the devastating financial impact to all football clubs of the pandemic.

United were the first club in the Premier League or Championship to agree a wage deferral of players, coaching staff and senior management.

Director of football Victor Orta expects the effects of the virus will cost them "several million pounds" each month.

The Championship giants posted a mixed set of financial results in April that recorded a pre-tax loss of £21.4m for last season even though turnover climbed to £48.9m.

The extent of Andrea Radrizzani's investment in Marcelo Bielsa and a higher standard of player was evident as Leeds' wage bill rocketed from from £31.3m to £46.1m.

This was mainly due to bumper new contracts for the senior players and the deals worth £6million-a-year handed to Bielsa and his coaching staff following their July 2018 arrival.

Bielsa's side are well placed to go one better than last season's third place Championship finish and secure automatic promotion.

They will resume the season - which is earmarked to be on 20 June - top of the league and seven points ahead of third-placed Fulham with nine matches of the campaign remaining.
