Liverpool will consider selling defender Joe Gomez if a suitable offer arrives, sources have told Football Insider.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have previously held talks over a deal with Liverpool involving the England international and Anthony Gordon.

Sources say Gomez is committed to the Reds as speculation rages over a potential move, but he could be sold before the 30 August deadline.

It is believed bids of between £40-45million will be seriously considered by Liverpool.

The versatile defender has proved valuable for the Reds in recent years, playing both as a natural centre-back and on both flanks as a full-back.

He was ever-present for Liverpool last term - making 51 appearances across all competitions and starting in 31 of those outings.

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Jarell Quansah were all preferred in the centre-back role by former boss Jurgen Klopp.

Aston Villa are keen on Gomez despite already bringing eight new faces to the club this summer.

Diego Carlos could be sold to facilitate the move, while Tyrone Mings is yet to return to full fitness from his horror knee injury.
