Liverpool boss Arne Slott is pushing the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes to sign a proven midfield star, sources have told Football Insider.

This comes after a deal for Martin Zubimendi collapsed, as the 25-year-old opted to stay at Real Sociedad rather than accept Liverpool’s offer.

The decision is a huge blow to Slot, as he wants a top-class number six who can control the midfield in his team.

Slot has now informed Hughes that he wants an alternative to be found before the 31st August cut-off.

Adrien Rabiot is one option that is being considered, as he is currently available as a free agent after his deal with Juventus expired earlier this summer.

Liverpool still wants midfield reinforcements despite Martin Zubimendi failure

Preliminary discussions have already occurred between Liverpool and Rabiot, and it’s believed a late deal could happen.

After Zubimendi’s deal didn’t work out, Endo could have a future with the Premier League giants if Slot can’t find another option.

One player Slot won’t need to replace this summer is Mohamed Salah, who is set to stay at Anfield.
