Paul Robinson has claimed Liverpool have to act quickly if they want to beat Chelsea to the signing of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the Reds may have to bring forward summer funds to secure a deal as they did with Luis Diaz in 2022.

According to Sky Sports (25 January), Brighton have slapped a £100million price tag on Caicedo amid interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's side are on the hunt for midfielders and Jude Bellingham is their number one target for the summer.

The Merseyside club brought forward funds to secure the signing of Luis Diaz ahead of Tottenham 12 months ago.

When asked by Football Insider if a similar situation could arise for Caicedo, Robinson said: "Maybe.

"I think Caicedo would be perfect for Liverpool and Chelsea. They both need a player like him. I really rate him. He has been excellent. Another very good signing from Brighton.

"Liverpool are not going to want to get in a bidding war with Chelsea though. I'm sure Klopp would want Caicedo in his side but if there's one club you don't want to compete with at the moment financially, it is Chelsea. They are being very aggressive in the transfer market. Their funds seem to be endless.

"If Liverpool want Caicedo they probably have to get that deal done quickly. If Chelsea come to the table with a big offer it will be difficult."
